All the horror and suffering caused by wars
The concept of this illustration was originally thought of many years ago as in the pencil sketches seen below.
I have to admit that the intention at the time, about ten years ago, was to portray urban violence in a city like São Paulo. In fact, I think that this image has so many possible meanings that I kept revisiting it from time to time, thinking about what other readings could be made of the same illustration.Today I'm revisiting it with a watercolor adaptation to portray all the horrors of war. Any war. Any time.
Nowadays watercolor is my preferred medium and one would think that it wouldn't be the first technique on a list to illustrate such a subject. In fact, the usual lightness of this technique is in direct contradiction to the darkness and suffering caused by wars. But after all, what war doesn't expose humanity's greatest contradictions?
